World Iodine Day 2025 Sparks Reform, Training, and Healing Behind Bars
Written by Ndali Modebe for DAME Media & PR Solutions
Accra, Ghana — October 22, 2025 — In a world quick to judge and slow to forgive, Project STEAM 2025 is rewriting the story of second chances. For the second consecutive year, the Louis Love Nest Foundation is leading a month-long campaign of empowerment, education, and restoration, bringing hope, skills, and health awareness directly to Ghana’s correctional facilities in alignment with World Iodine Day 2025, themed: “Strengthening Iodine Awareness for a Smarter, Healthier Future.”
Guided by the vision of Ndali Modebe, Founder of Project STEAM, this initiative recognizes that “They made mistakes — but they are still human.” The campaign combines free digital and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) training with iodine health education, wellness interventions, and emotional support — transforming prisons into spaces of rehabilitation, learning, and dignity.
“This year, Project STEAM is not only about skills, but also about saving lives,” said Modebe. “Iodine deficiency remains the leading cause of preventable brain damage globally. By educating households to use iodized salt, reduce excessive salt intake, and add it at the end of cooking, we protect children’s brains and empower families. Behind bars or outside, every human deserves a chance to learn and thrive.”
Tribute to Visionaries
This year, Project STEAM honors the legacy of Mr. Iodine, a pioneering advocate of iodine awareness, and Lady Iodine, the matriarch who passed away at 91 on March 7, 2025. Lady Iodine’s lifelong commitment to protecting the African child continues to inspire the initiative’s humanitarian and educational mission.
