I wrote an ode to a the sleeping giant, with hopes that someday, my sleeping giant awakens.

 

Oh! Dear Great Sleeping Giant — Nigeria!
How I love being Nigerian.
We are one of the most underestimated and marginalized nations on earth — second only to Israel. Instantly profiled as criminals, labelled loud and obnoxious. Yet despite all, we rise. We thrive.
Dear African Giant, it’s time to awaken and rewrite the narrative. Our stories must reclaim history! With tears in my eyes, I recall the heroes past: Great Nnamdi Azikiwe, Professor Louis Ekpechi (@mriodineglobal), Matron Georgina Ekpechi, Sir Victor Akudo Modebe MBE, Nkanuetta Modebe, JP Flora Ojukwu, Onyeka Onwenu, Prof Dora Akunyili, General Odumegwu Ojukwu, my godmother Njideka Ojukwu — and so many others.
We will never forget. Despite bad governance, despite condescending immigration laws faced by Nigerians in the diaspora, we stand a million feet tall. We will never back down. Awake, O Sleeping Giant! Awake — your people are crying out. The time for REVOLUTION is now.
And on this day, as we mark Nigeria’s 65th Independence, we also launch something new: Project STEAM 2025.
May this day mark a season of growth, unity, and purpose. As our nation rises, may we rise too — in knowledge, in strength, in global impact.
